Welcome to the Point Blank Gym website. We specialise in Mixed Martial Arts and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu training. If you’re interested in receiving information on our classes, or have a specific question about what we do then please call, email or fill out the contact form location here.

We specialise in beginner friendly training, and consider  ourselves Galway’s number 1 location for learning functional martial arts.

New beginners MMA & BJJ course starting in June

Maybe you’re interested in learning how to defend yourself, or maybe you are just looking for a new sport? Maybe you’ve been watching the UFC on TV and fancy learning more about Mixed Martial Arts. Or maybe you’re like a lot of our members- You want to get fit, but you think going to the gym is boring and ultimately not very productive.

If so, then this is what you’re looking for.

A new round of our dedicated beginner classes will be starting in Point Blank Gym on Monday June 20th. Classes will be running on Mondays and Wednesdays at 7pm and focus on the fundamentals of MMA –  Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, wrestling and kickboxing.

Point Blank Gym is Galway’s dedicated MMA facility, featuring a large matted training area, and a competition-sized cage.

At Point Blank we have 2 streams of MMA practitioners:
Competitive: Those actively seeking to compete in Mixed Martial Arts at any level.
Non-Competitive: Those using MMA training as a past time for fitness or a hobby.

No matter which category you fall into, you’ll be challenged every day to become better than you were before.

Remember – You don’t need to be fit to start! Getting you fit is our job! So whether you’re currently in good shape or whether you’re using MMA as a method of getting that way, we can help you. In our gym you’ll find no wannabe tough guys, just people like you who are interested in the challenge of training or competing in MMA and BJJ.

We’re now enrolling for this course. We are offering the first 6 weeks of the course for only €60! That’s a 33% discount from our regular rates.

Our last course was sold out on the first night and unfortunately we had to turn people away.

This time we are offering the ability to book and confirm your spot online.

These classes can be used as either a stand-alone course for those interested in learning something new or adding to their skills, or as an introduction to further training in Mixed Martial Arts and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. So, whether you are just looking to take up a new sport or if you fancy yourself as a future UFC champion, these classes are a great place to get started.

Training at Point Blank is a fun, enjoyable experience. You will learn new skills, get stronger and fitter and be part of a team of people all committed to doing the same. Remember, you don’t need to be fit to join; getting you in shape is our job!

Ladies only Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes

We are delighted to announce that we will be starting ladies only Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes in Point Blank Gym. These classes will be taught by Coach Olga Lyashevska. Olga is a black belt in both Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and in Judo and is an experienced international competitor.

Classes will start on April 20th and will run every Wednesday and Friday at 6pm.

About Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a grappling martial art; in other words no strikes are allowed. BJJ focuses on technique, skill and the correct use of leverage. This means that it can be used by a smaller opponent to defeat a much larger one.

  • It will help you lose weight, get fit and improve your functional strength
  • You will learn real techniques and skills which might help you protect yourself and your family if the situation ever arises
  • The techniques work for everybody, not just for those big and strong. This is the real strength of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Whether you just want to get fitter and learn a new sport, or whether you have ambitions of one day competing, there is a place for you in at Point Blank Gym. We have a friendly and welcoming team atmosphere that is suitable for complete beginners.

Common Questions

When are the classes?
Classes will run every Wednesday and Friday at 6pm.

How much is it to sign up?
We are currently running a new promotion where you can have a 14 day, no obligation, free trial before signing up so feel free to call down and try out some classes at no charge.

What do I need to bring?
In these classes the normal BJJ uniform called the gi or kimono will be used. However you don’t need one of these to get started. All you need to bring are shorts or tracksuit bottoms and a tshirt. A bottle of water would be a good idea too!

Is any previous experience required?
Our new ladies program is aimed at complete beginners; no previous experience of any kind is needed or expected.

Do I need to be fit to join?
Not at all, as we always say, getting you fit is our job. It’s natural to be a bit worried about not being fit enough to train but it is really not an issue. Once you start training in BJJ you will start getting fitter as you are learning. Everyone gets tired during their first class but you’ll be surprised how quickly you start coming up to speed.

Ladies only seminar

About Olga Lyashevska

Olga started training in Judo and BJJ in 2005. She received her black belt in judo in 2010 and her black belt in BJJ in 2015. Olga won the 2012, 2013 and 2015 trials for the World Pro Jiu Jitsu Championships in Abu Dhabi. In 2013 as a purple beltshe became a No-gi European Champion. In 2014 she won the brown belt open class at Rome International Open. In 2016, she won a bronze medal in the Black Belt open class at the European Championship in Lisbon.

End of year seminar and grading

We are delighted to announce that our end of year grading and seminar with BJJ black belt Fergal Quinlan will take place on Saturday December 12th at 11am.

Fergal is a BJJ Revolution black belt under Carlson Gracie 4th degree black belt Rodrigo Medeiros and is the head coach of Limerick BJJ Academy. Fergal was one of the first people in Ireland to achieve a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and has trained and competed all over the world.

The cost of the seminar is only €20, we ask all Point Blank members to please come and support the event. Please book and pre-pay for your spot in the office

We will be making a donation from the proceeds to Pieta House, Preventing Suicide and Self Harm.
