History

Point Blank Submissions is one of Ireland’s original Mixed Martial Arts and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu clubs, founded in 2002. It began as a training club affiliated to SBG under John Kavanagh based in NUIG, extending from the NUIG Taekwon-Do club. Its founding members included first generation Irish MMA fighters such as Mark Leonard, Vinny Connelly, Tom Haddock and Mark O’Toole. We moved to our first full-time premises in 2006 in the Parkmore Business Park where the club was run by Mark Leonard. In February 2011 Mark stepped aside and Tim Murphy took over as head coach. In May 2011 we moved to our new facility in the Glenrock Business Park in the Ballybane Industrial Estate.

We have had fighters compete on most Irish MMA promotions over the years and many amateur and professional fighters have come up through the ranks in the club. In 2011 we joined BJJ Revolution Team under Fergal Quinlan of Limerick BJJ. BJJ Revolution team is headed by Brazilian Jiu Jitsu back belt Rodrigo Medeiros. Head Coach Tim Murphy commented “As we moved to the new gym I felt it was a good time to start a new affiliation. I’ve trained on and off with Fergal Quinlan in Limerick for a long time and I’ve been going to Rodrigo’s seminars for the past three or four years, which were always fantastic, so they were the natural choice when it came to finding a new team to join.”
